MARRIAGE:
All Catholics fall under the CODE OF CANON LAW. If you are not married in the Catholic Church and are a PRACTICING, ACTIVE CATHOLIC, then you need to have your marriage convalidated…i.e. get married in the Church. If you are married civilly and your marriage has not been convalidated, you cannot approach the sacraments. Both parties need a series of meetings with a priest, usually starting 6 months or more before the marriage or convalidation. Because of the fluidity of the military today, the priest may opt for a shorter preparation period. Couples also need to attend a Catholic preparation program i.e. Catholic Marriage Encounter. (www.wwme.org), or Catholic Engaged Encounter. For couples that have completed the preparation period, the actual ceremony can be done in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel during the week. |
